Moll, Karen November 22, 1949 - April 7, 2025

Karen Moll, 75, of Washington Township, passed away on April 7, 2025, after a short battle with cancer.

Karen was born on November 22, 1949, to David and Muriel (Zachmann) Pickels in Paterson, NJ. On June 27, 1970, she married Kenneth Moll, to whom she was married for almost 55 years. They built a beautiful home in Washington Township, where they lived since 1972.

After obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from Rutgers University, Karen went to work at Hoffmann-La Roche in Nutley. She would stay there until the plant closed when she was 62, at which time she retired.

Karen greatly valued all her family and many long-time friends, and she was generous in time and support with all. She was a wonderful cook and hostess, and her home was the main gathering place for family on holidays. Her passing will leave a hole in the lives of many.

Karen began playing tennis and golf at Hoffmann-La Roche. She was a great fan of the New York Giants and enjoyed watching many sports. Karen and Ken often went to NCAA tournaments together, and she enjoyed going to the U.S. Open with friends.

Karen was a voracious reader and so it seemed natural for her to volunteer time at the Washington Township Public Library and then become an officer of the library’s Friends group. She enjoyed cross-stitching, filling her home with many beautiful pieces, knitting, doing jigsaw puzzles, and birding. She and Ken vacationed in Cape May for many years, where they enjoyed birding, eating out, and shopping.

Karen’s mother preceded her in death in 2023. Karen is survived by Ken Moll, her husband of 55 years; sisters Susan Clark (Bruce) and Barbara Daniel (Dave); nieces Shannon Reap (Shawn), Rachel Clark (Jesse Lopez), and Amanda Greene (Marcus Ward); nephew Brian Clark; great-nephews Alexander, Colin and Malcolm Reap; cousins Carol Flanagan, Linda Lemke, and Jennifer Lemke; and her two much-loved Irish Setters, Colleen and Kerry.

Karen will be cremated, and there will be a memorial visitation held at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, on Thursday, April 17th from 1 PM to 4 PM with the services beginning at 3:30pm.  Entombment of ashes will follow at Union Cemetery, Hackettstown, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Friends of the Washington Township Public Library, 37 East Springtown Road, Long Valley, NJ  07853 in memory of Karen.

I’ve known Karen for nearly 60 years. She and Mary Ellen went through 4 years of college chemistry together and she was maid of honor at our wedding. Over the years we have enjoyed pinochle games together, concerts, dinners out and dinners in. Karen was a kind, loving person Ho cared deeply for her family and friends. Her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled. Truly a blessing and beloved friend
