Sultana “Suzan” Petrakis, 90 of Great Meadows, NJ passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 with her loving family by her side. Born in Istanbul, Turkey, Suzan was the daughter of the late Theofilos and Fotini Sevastopoulos Papatoma.
Suzan or “YiaYia” as she was affectionally known was a one of a kind old school woman that made sure you knew where she stood with you. Once you met her, you would never forget her! She and her beloved, late husband Lazarus “Larry” Petrakis traveled the world together. A woman of devout faith, Suzan was a parishioner of Saint Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church in Randolph, NJ for many years. She was formerly employed as a travel consultant with First Morris Travel in Convent Station, NJ.
Suzie is survived by her loving daughter, Maria (Richard) Schmidt with whom she lived. One brother, “Jerry” Yerasimos Papatoma of New York. Two beloved granddaughters, Jennifer Ledet and Heather Tasco. Four beautiful Great-grandchildren, Jacob, Brooke, Lucas and John.
Viewing hours will take place on Monday, December 11th from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ.
A funeral of Christian Burial will take place on the same day at 12:00pm in St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church, 1447 Sussex Turnpike, Randolph, NJ with Father John Theodosion officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the Holy Rood Cemetery, Morristown, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrew’s Church 1447 Sussex Turnpike Randolph, NJ 07869.
