Hatsuko “Katie” Reisberg, age 88, of Hackettstown, NJ, died on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at her home surrounded by family.
Hatsuko was born on November 9, 1936 in Okinawa, Japan, to the late Sosei and Yoshi (Aguni) Kochi.
As a child, she experienced the Battle of Okinawa during World War II, which claimed the life of her father. As a young woman, she met Leo Mark Reisberg, who was stationed at a U.S. Army base on Okinawa, and they were married on September 14, 1964 in the city of Naha before moving to the United States in 1966. She lived in Hanover, NJ, the Highlands and Irvington before moving to Hackettstown in 1978.
She was employed at M&M Mars in Hackettstown for over 20 years before her retirement.
Hatsuko was an excellent cook, and enjoyed gardening, knitting, traveling and playing the slot machines at casinos around the world. She was a frequent guest (and jackpot winner) at Mount Airy Casino Resort in the Poconos and several Atlantic City casinos.
Hatsuko is survived by two sons, Leo Reisberg and Sam Reisberg; a daughter, MaryAnn Johnson and son-in-law Scott Johnson; several grandchildren, including Nicole Koeppel and Amber Allen, and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo M.; her parents, Sosei and Yoshi Kochi; her brother Ryoko; and a grandson, Sammy Doko.
Services were held privately and under the direction of the Cochran Funeral Home, Hackettstown.
