In Loving Memory of Agnes Christine ( Stramaglia) Richless

Agnes Christine (Stramaglia)  Richless, aged 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 21, in Florham Park, New Jersey. A kind, vibrant, and loving soul, Agnes lived a life full of warmth, laughter, and unforgettable moments.  Born in Newark, New Jersey, to Josephine and Frank Stramaglia, Sr., Agnes spent her early years surrounded by the close-knit charm of Madison, New Jersey. Later in life, she returned to Madison, bringing her journey full circle—close to where her father once ran his beloved shoe repair shop, a place filled with family pride and neighborhood connection.

Agnes shared over 50 beautiful years with her devoted husband, Jay Richless. Their marriage was a true partnership marked by adventure, affection, and an ever-present sense of wonder. Together, they traveled the world hand in hand, embracing new cultures and capturing their memories in photo albums now cherished by family. Their love was a shining example of joy in companionship.

She was predeceased by Jay and by her brother, Frank Stramaglia, Jr. Agnes’s memory lives on through her loving sister, Anita Prudente; cousin, Anthony Stramaglia; nephews, Charles and Robert Prudente (and his wife, Heidi); and her niece, Jo Montgomery (and her husband, Andrew). Each one carries a part of her spirit in their hearts.

Agnes and Jay made their home in Upper Saddle River for many years, where they created a life filled with laughter, deep friendships, and community.  After Jay’s passing, Agnes returned to Madison, embracing the comfort of familiar streets and lifelong roots.

To those who knew her, Agnes will be remembered most for her infectious humor, gentle heart, and lightness of spirit. She had a sparkle in her eye and a signature phrase that brought smiles to every room: “aye, aye captain!” It was her playful way of saying yes to life and all its surprises.  Agnes was the kind of person who made everyone feel seen and loved. Her presence brightened every gathering, and her laughter lingered long after the moment had passed. She was a beloved sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, and her memory will forever be held close by those who were lucky enough to know her.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, joy, and a life well lived.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the Our Lady of the Mountain Church, 2 East Springtown Road, Long Valley, NJ.  Cemetery service to follow at the Pequest Union Cemetery, 30 Cemetery Road, Great Meadows, NJ.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown NJ 07840.  Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.cochranfuneral.com
