Roe, Robert November 9, 1931 - December 20, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Robert H. Roe. Robert passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 following a brief illness. Born on November 9, 1931 to Thomas and Dorothy H. Roe,

Robert spent his youth in Hackettstown, and graduated from Hackettstown High School in 1949. After high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force. He began his training at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was one of the soldiers selected from his class to take a course specializing in B-29 aircraft. Robert became an aircraft mechanic in the strategic air command at Walker AFB, Roswell New Mexico, as well as active duty support for troops deployed during the Korean War. After serving a four year enlistment in the Army Air Force, Sgt. Robert H. Roe received his honorable discharge from Limestone AFB in Maine, where he had been stationed since July 1953.

After returning home, Robert worked at Stockers in Netcong, NJ. Six evenings a week after work, he would deliver milk from Corey’s Farm on Route 57 (where the Walmart now stands) up over the mountain, to a creamery in Chatham NJ.

In 1955 Robert married Shirley Demeritt, and together they raised 4 children in his hometown.

In 1961 Robert started employment at Jersey Central Power& Light Company as a lineman. After 33 dedicated years, Robert retired in 1994. At his retirement dinner, the President of the company spoke of Robert as one of his all-time favorites, and a cross between John Wayne and the Marlboro Man.

Robert had a love of all animals, especially German Shepherds which he always had at least one of at any given time. At one point, he even had a Tennessee Walker horse named Jim, and could often be seen riding his trusty steed around the town.

After retiring, Robert move to Kunkletown, Pa. where he enjoyed working and maintaining his cousin’s 80 acre farm. He was a Jack of all trades, and could build or repair almost anything. He had a passion for restoring old tractors and pickup trucks. Sunny days found him riding his tractor up in the farm fields with his German Shepard by his side.

Robert’s greatest joy and proudest achievement was his family. They meant more to him than life itself. He was an adoring and loving father, and will be missed greatly.

Robert was pre deceased by his parents Thomas and Dorothy H. Roe, and his Great Grandson, Tyler Michael Wehrenberg.

Robert is survived by his former wife and lifelong friend, Shirley Roe, a son Thomas Roe, three daughters, Debra (Mark)Wehrenberg, Nancy (Eric) Parrish, Ellen (Anthony) LiPetri, as well as 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Visitation will be a Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, and (Route 517) Hackettstown NJ on Wednesday December 28th from 4-8 pm, and a special service on Thursday December 29th at 11:00 am also at Cochran Funeral Home, followed by a military service and internment at Pequest Cemetery, Great Meadows NJ.
