Marinus A. Romano, a World War II veteran and lifelong engineer, passed away on Monday, February 12th, 2024. He was 97.
Tony was born May 28, 1926 in Passaic, New Jersey and lived in Brooklyn with his Parents, Anthony Romano and Vera Deluca, and brother Ron.
Tony enrolled in the Army in 1944. Tony toured Europe as a tank driver in the 342nd Armored Field Artillery. He was a member of the Central Europe and Rhineland Campaigns, obtaining the World War II, American Campaign, EAME Campaign, and Good Conduct medals. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and enrolled at the University of Oklahoma from 1946 to 1950, graduating with a Masters in Aerospace Engineering. Tony then went on to achieve a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1954.
Tony married Doris Carnese in 1955 and lived on Long Island with their two children, Mark and Veralynn. Tony worked as a Senior Design Engineer at Fairchild Republic Co. for 30 years, designing and researching aircraft and missile systems. He ended his career working for General Applied Science Laboratories, Inc. (GASL) as a Principle Research Scientist and served as a consultant for several years
Tony and his wife Doris moved out to New Jersey in 2007 to live with their daughter Veralynn on her farm. Since then, Tony filled his days with fixing things around the farm, gardening, and taking care of his beloved cat friends.
Tony was predeceased by his parents Anthony and Vera, his son Mark, his wife Doris, and his brother Ron.
Tony is survived by his daughter Veralynn and two grandchildren, Holly and Alex.
He will be missed by all those who knew him.

We will miss his quick wit and stories about his military service, which he was very proud to tell at our get togthers. Thank you Tony for your service and friendship. Condolences to Vera and grandchildren, who he was very proud of. Please take care of his kitty friends, they were a priority to feed before he came to meet us.
