Smiecinski, Paul C. November 26, 1960 - May 4, 2022

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Paul Clayton Smiecinski, 61, on Wednesday May 4, 2022 at Hackensack Hospital after a brief struggle with cancer. Paul was born in Morristown, New Jersey and a lifelong resident of Whippany, New Jersey and most recently Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey. His “heaven on earth” was his home/cabin in Lake Como, Pennsylvania. For the past 40+ years Paul has managed his own tree business and was known as “Paul The Tree Guy”.

Paul was loved and cherished by his devoted wife, Kimberly (nee-Georgio). He was pre-deceased by his parents, Felix R. and Shirley J. as well as his brother, Mark P. Smiecinski. He is survived by his son, Michael P. (wife, Larissa) and grandson, Mason, brother, Richard W. (Diana deceased) and his fiancé Virginia, sister, Susan M. and husband, Ahmed Z. Shraim, loving sister-in-law, Nicole and husband, Chris StClair and brother-in-law, Michael Georgio (deceased). He was uncle and great uncle to Marlena Smiecinski Maier (husband, James and sons Jace & Clayton) of Boston, Massachusetts, Carrie Smiecinski Hornung (husband, Drew and daughters, Amelia & Adelynn) of Panther Valley, NJ, Rebecca Smiecinski (Justin Kramer) of Stillwater, NJ, Jennifer Serio (sons, Amari & Avery and daughters, Aaliyah & Amani) of Plainfield, NJ, Lauren Serio Quigley (sons, James & Jackson and daughter London) of Jacksonville, Florida, Regis Smiecinski (daughter, Genevieve and sons, Robert & Clifford) of Cedar Knolls, NJ, Katherine Smiecinski of Oregon and Marilyn Toro (son, Michael Georgio) of Whitestone, New York, as well as, numerous extended family members.

He loved his friends, workers and neighbors (known as the ‘Marlboro Man”) as they also adored and had great admiration for him. He was always there to be a friend and lend his help. Paul was an outdoorsman; loved hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, snow mobiling, riding his dirt bikes and speed boat racing (JAWS)! As years passed he became the rescuer of any human or animal that needed a home. His most recent finds were “Blacky” the cat and Foxy his beloved dog; who was forever at his side.

A memorial visitation will be held 4-8 p.m., Monday May 9, 2022 at Cochran Funeral Home 905 High Street Hackettstown. A mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday May 10, 2022 at Good Shepherd R.C. Church 48 Tranquility Road (Route 517) Andover, New Jersey.

I only met Paul once, he was the only person who would come to help my parents with tree removal after Hurricane Sandy (Sean Grogan had reached out to him for help). He came right away and saved my parent’s carriage house which required a lot of heavy technical lifting due to the damage sustained. He was so professional and such a nice man. I will never forget how he helped us. I am so saddened to learn of his passing. My heart goes out to his family and friends and to his brother, Rich…I’m so very sorry.

I have nothing but fond memories of Paul. Kim and Paul would frequent Bogeys on weekends and bring life to that Old little Dinner Spot. I remember a, kind hearted man, that kept Kim in line. They were lucky to have each other….
    He will be missed…..
