Travis, James Joseph March 16, 1929 - October 1, 2024

Date of Funeral

October 6, 2024

James Joseph Travis, 95, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024 in Hillsborough, NJ. He was a devoted husband to Laura (Roman) Travis for 74 years and lived in Roselle Park, NJ until moving to Hillsborough in 2017. A loving father and caring grandfather and great-grandfather, James was an avid bowler and golfer until recent years, and always prioritized time spent with family.

Born on March 16, 1929, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to Vernon and Julia “Dobby” Travis, he was one of eight children. He met his wife Laura working at the Singer factory in Elizabeth, marrying in 1950. James worked for NJ Bell Telephone for 35 years, retiring to spend more time pursuing his passions. One of his fondest memories was a trip to his mother’s home country of Ireland, where he golfed with his son and grandson.

James was a member of Knights of Columbus and served as secretary of several bowling leagues. He was an accomplished bowler, missing a perfect game several times by one pin. For over 30 plus years, he eagerly awaited the annual Panther Valley members-guest Golf Tournament that he always enjoyed playing with his son Jim. He also enjoyed doing puzzles, keeping up with the latest technologies, and visiting with his children, grandchildren, and niece, Laura Fowler (Scott) and grand-nephew Craig (Jaclyn).

James is survived by his wife, Laura, as well as children, Karen Satkofsky (Gary) and James Travis (Robin), and grandchildren Adam Travis, Kiley Flannigan (Robert), and Jamie Archibald (Thomas). He was also a proud great-grandfather to great-granddaughters, Stella and Reese Flannigan, and Dylan and Jordan Archibald.

A memorial visitation will take place on Sunday, October 6, 2024 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Panther Valley Golf & Country Club in Allamuchy, NJ, where he enjoyed countless rounds of golf with his son and grandson, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm with Chaplin Mario Spadaro officiating.
