Kathleen Ann Uber

June 28, 1944 – October 7, 2025

Kathleen Ann Uber, 81, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.

Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on June 28, 1944, to the late Bill and Evelyn Pless, Kathie was a Jersey girl through and through, carrying the spirit of the Garden State with her throughout her remarkable life.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Ted Uber, with whom she built a beautiful life after meeting at a dance at Rutgers University. Their story began with that fateful dance and blossomed into a marriage on November 19, 1966. Kathie is also survived by her sister Lynn Strzelecki (Stan) of Clarksburg, NJ; her four children David Uber (Kellie) of Bernardsville, NJ, Nancy Uber-Rose (Greg Rose) of San Diego, CA, Suzy Yorty (Brandon) of Lebanon, PA, and Meredith Fess (Derek) of Glenside, PA; and her four cherished grandchildren Lindsay Uber, Ryan Uber, Samantha Yorty, and Logan Yorty.

After graduating from Woodbridge High School, Kathie hit the ground running, landing a position at Merck Pharmaceuticals. With the money she earned there, she bought her “pride and joy” – a sunny yellow Chevy Malibu that matched her bright personality perfectly – a car in which she’d often be seen cruising down to the Shore or around town.

Kathie and Ted’s journey together led them to their first home in Iselin, NJ, where they began their family life. In 1979, they settled in Long Valley, where they would raise their four children and become beloved fixtures in the community. Kathie poured her heart into her community, becoming deeply involved with the Long Valley Women’s Club, where she worked tirelessly with the food pantry and helped organize fundraising events like the Antique Show.

Her voracious love of reading led her to serve on the Washington Township Public Library Board, where she was instrumental in building the new library – a legacy she always carried with great pride. When her children grew older, Kathie returned to the workforce as the Building Use Coordinator for the Washington Township Board of Education, where her warmth and organizational skills made her invaluable to countless clubs and community events. She was also a devoted member of Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church.

In her treasured free time, Kathie found joy in the simple pleasures: losing herself in a good book, tending to her garden, knitting gifts for loved ones, and spending precious moments with her grandchildren. For years, she volunteered with the Seeing Eye Institute, working with puppies – a perfect match for her nurturing spirit and love of animals.

In her golden years, she discovered a profound joy in exploring the world alongside that dearest to her heart. With cherished friends and beloved family by her side, she embarked on unforgettable journeys that painted her life with vivid memories—wandering through the sun-drenched villages of Italy, savoring the passionate culture of Spain, discovering the beauty and style of France, tracing her heritage across the emerald landscapes of Ireland, marveling at Alaska’s majestic glaciers and untamed wilderness, basking in Hawaii’s tropical paradise, and discovering countless other breathtaking destinations that enriched her soul and broadened her horizons with each adventure.

Long Beach Island held a special place in Kathie’s heart. Summer after summer, she created golden memories there with her growing family—flying kites with the grandkids, savoring fresh seafood, and taking in the beauty of Old Barney. The salt air and sound of the waves were where she felt most at peace.

Kathie’s legacy is one of service, love, and community. She taught her family the value of giving back, the joy of a good book, and the importance of showing up for the people and causes you care about. Her warm smile, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 from 12 – 3 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local Humane Society or to the Seeing Eye Institute at https://seeingeye.org/you-can-help/ways-to-give.

So sorry to hear about Kathie passing. My thoughts and prayers are with all the family. We would compare notes when going through Chemo. She was so very brave. I still have her recipe for Forgotten Cookies that I have shared with many. They will be a wonderful remembrance when I bake them each year. God Bless, Barbara Shaw
