Robert J. Walsh, 92, of Allamuchy, N.J., (Panther Valley) passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 24, surrounded by his loving family.
Robert was the beloved husband of the late Constance E. (Conway) who passed away in 2018.
Robert is survived by his 3 sons, Michael J. Walsh and wife Catherine, Robert E. Walsh and wife Kate, and James Walsh and wife Emily, and his 2 daughters, Susan Walsh and Carolyn Lightner. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren, Emily, Catherine and Kenneth Walsh; Alison and Oliver Walsh, Kyle and Christian Lightner, and Griffin and Claire Walsh, as well as 2 great grandsons, Finn and Peter. One of nine, Robert is survived by his brother, John T. Walsh, and three sisters: Patricia Downey, Kay Gale and Rita Walsh, all from the Boston area, along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his two brothers, Joseph and Tom and two sisters, Mary and Margaret.
Bob was born in Boston, Massachusetts and attended Boston Latin School. After serving four years in the U.S. Navy including a tour of duty aboard the U.S.S. New Jersey in the Korean War, he graduated from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy where he received a BS and MS in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. He started his career in the pharmaceutical industry in New York at American Cyanamid Company (Lederle Laboratories), progressing on to BASF, Warner Lambert and retiring from Schering-Plough in 1999.
He was a long-time member of the Panther Valley Golf and Country Club and in retirement worked as a volunteer at Hackettstown Hospital.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate his life at the Cochran Funeral Home on Rte. 517 in Hackettstown, N.J. from 4-7PM on Thursday, March 2. A funeral service for the family will be held at Cochran Funeral Home at 10AM on Friday March 3.
