Wilson, Joseph W. Jr. October 4, 1946 - February 25, 2023

Joseph “Warren” Wilson, Jr., age 76, of Great Meadows, NJ died Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center.  Warren was born October 4, 1946 in Morristown, NJ to the late Josephine G. (Galvin) Wilson and father, Joseph W. Wilson Sr. and stepmother Helen. In addition to his parents, Warren was preceded in death by his brother, Gregory C. Wilson.

Warren grew up in Morristown and enjoyed playing sports. He was an avid baseball player and became an all-star in the Babe-Ruth, Legion and High-school levels. He also played high school Varsity Football where he was known for his speed and agility that earned him the nickname “Whiz”, which stuck with him throughout his life. Later in life he was inducted into the Morristown High-school Football Hall-of-Fame, as a key member of the 1963 Undefeated Football Team, Morristown High’s only undefeated season in their history.

Warren married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Elizabeth “Betty” Wilson (nee McLaughlin) in May 1966.  He was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia.  After serving, he settled down with Betty in Hackettstown, NJ, where he worked and raised his family.  He was a lifelong employee of the IBEW local Union 581 later 102 as an electrician before his retirement. In addition, Warren enjoyed giving back to his community and volunteered 15 years in coaching recreational baseball for the Moose Lodge in Hackettstown, NJ.  Warren enjoyed watching his children play sports and could be seen in the stands at almost every one of their games.  He was a devoted Hackettstown Tigers fan and at one time was the Hackettstown Booster club President.  In addition to being the number one fan of his children, he loved watching the Giants, Yankees, Mets, and Rangers.  Warren was also an active member of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary for many years, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion.

Warren is predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Betty.  He is survived by his two devoted daughters,  Mary-Leigh Kendra and husband Eric, Elizabeth “Beth” Thornton and husband Jeffrey, his loving son, Joseph W. Wilson III and wife Maia, his cherished  grandchildren, Eric Kendra, Sean and Kelly Thornton, Joseph W. IV, Keira and Braden Wilson and a brother-in-law, Michael McLaughlin,Sr., his niece Kimberly McLaughin, and nephew Michael McLaughlin Jr.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 4 at Church Of The Assumption Of The Blessed Mary, 305 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J. with Father David Pekola officiating.  Burial will follow in Pequest Union Cemetery, Great Meadows.
Visitation will be Friday, March 3 from 4-8 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ.

    Oh, my deepest condolences to your family. We loved Warren and Betty!! I was just asking my friend about his whereabouts as we have not seen him recently. He was a joy to be around. I am sorry I missed the funeral. May God surround you all with his peace. May he rest in peace. They both are greatly missed!
