Golembeski, Teresa January 9, 1930 - August 30, 2021

Teresa Golembeski, age 91, of Hackettstown passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021 surrounded by her family. Teresa was born on January 9, 1930 in Nanticoke, PA to the late Dora (Cushner) and John Butchko. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her devoted husband Thomas in 1998. Also two brothers, Daniel and John Butchko and two sisters, Bernadine Simko and Dorothy Houseman predeceased her.

Teresa graduated from Nanticoke High School and Nesbitt Memorial Hospital School of Nursing becoming a registered nurse. Upon graduation she began her career at Eastern State Hospital for the Mentally Ill in Williamsburg, VA. In addition, she was employed at Greystone Psychiatric Hospital, Morris Plains, NJ and Centenary College Infirmary in Hackettstown. Teresa was an avid reader who enjoyed sewing and crocheting until macular degeneration robbed her of her eyesight. She also enjoyed shopping and getting a good bargain.

Over the years, Teresa walked five miles each day around the Centenary area where she lived, up Grand Avenue and through the College View development. She took such delight in cars beeping their horns to wave as they passed by. We would always hear the daily tally as to how many “honks” she got.

For the last eight years, Mom lived at River Walk in Hackettstown, surrounded by wonderful neighbors. She enjoyed sitting in the gazebo with a magazine greeting other residents and potential renters. She was also seen sitting outside her apartment saying the rosary. Her quick smile earned her the nickname “Mayor” as everyone knew Teresa.

Survivors include her son, Tom Golembeski and his wife Paula; two daughters Kris Grogan and her husband Bob, and Doreen Golembeski, as well as two grand dogs, Toby and Yocco.
She was also Grandma to Rob Wehmeyer and his wife Danielle and Ryan Wehmeyer and his wife Amanda. Life took on new meaning with the arrival of Tori, Talon, Sydnee, Teagan, and Cade. How Mom loved hearing their little voices call her “Grandma Great”. She wore that title with such pride!

The funeral will be held at 8:00 am on Friday, September 3, 2021 at our Lady of the Mountain Church, 2 E Springtown Road, Long Valley, NJ with the Rev Msg. Joseph Goode officiating.
Burial will be private.

Visitation hours will be on Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 4-7 pm at COCHRAN Funeral Home Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Hackettstown Rescue Squad in Teresa’s memory.

As many of you know, Happy Hour was Mom’s favorite time of day. So please pour yourself a glass of Merlot and join us as we celebrate a life well lived.
