Rhodes, Rev. Diane L. May 8, 1949 - September 14, 2022

The Rev. Diane L. Rhodes, age 73, died peacefully in her sleep on September 14, 2022, at the House of the Good Shepherd in Hackettstown, New Jersey. She is the daughter of the late George and Betty Rhodes.

Diane was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on May 8, 1949. She graduated from The Ellis School in 1968. After graduation, Diane attended the University of Chicago and graduated with honors in 1971. She remained in Chicago and worked in management with the Illinois Bell Telephone Company.  Later in life, she felt called to the ordained ministry. She returned to school and graduated summa cum laude from the Drew University Theological School with a Master of Divinity degree in 2004. She was then ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church on December 17, 2005. After her ordination, Diane served as Assisting Priest at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Lincoln Park, NJ. She was then called to serve at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Harrington Park, NJ in 2007 and spent 14 years there until her retirement as Rector in 2021. Among other accolades at her retirement, she was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the town’s Mayor for her many years of service to Harrington Park. Diane was known for her generosity and care for all. During her time at St. Andrew’s in Harrington Park, Diane actively supported the church’s food ministry programs as well as its participation in assisting homeless individuals and families as part of Family Promise of Bergen County. She was also active in the Episcopal Diocese of Newark.

She will be remembered by many, young and old, for her passion and compassion, as well as her support of all those in need (including the Pittsburgh Steelers, of whom she was a dedicated fan).  She was available for so many, and all benefitted from her love and caring.

She is survived by her late brother George’s wife Hielkje, their sons Michael (and hiswife Kelly) of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, and William (and his wife Cindy) of Brunssum, the Netherlands. She was predeceased by her brother, George Rhodes, and her parents George and Betty Rhodes.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 31 Lynn Street, Harrington Park NJ, on September 25th at 2 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Diane’s name may be made  to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 31 Lynn Street, Harrington Park, NJ 07640.
