Steven Bruce Alonso

On Thursday, July 2, 2026 Steven Bruce Alonso of Hackettstown, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at the age of 70, with his son by his side while in the care of Hospice at Hackettstown Medical Center.

Steve was born on July 16, 1955, in Syracuse, New York, to Mary (Chalupa) and the late Joseph Alonso. He was the devoted husband of the late Sharron Alonso, a loving father to Nathan (Loren) Alonso, and a cherished grandfather to Sofia and Giana.

Steve attended Syracuse University and later earned his Master’s Degree in Engineering from the University of Phoenix. In his early years, he served with the Civil Air Patrol, participating in search and rescue missions, before pursuing a successful career in aerospace engineering.

A gifted musician and lover of music, Steve was a member of the Friendly Folk singing group, performing with them in venues around the world. He also found great joy in the outdoors, watching baseball, and spending countless weekends building model railroad layouts. His lifelong fascination with aviation led him to earn his pilot’s license, combining his passion for engineering with his love of flight.
