Avis J. Darst, Age 84, of Hackettstown, went to heaven on April 23 after a long and brave battle against cancer.
Avis was born in Webster, Kentucky. Avis is preceded in death by her first spouse, Harold Darst (deceased 2013) of Hackettstown, and second spouse, Walter Stuber (deceased 2021) of Hackettstown.
Avis grew up under childhood hardships to emerge a successful and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. As a wife she cared for her husbands. As a mother she made the best food, made sure each Christmas season was fun, loved her desserts, made an awesome chocolate cake, enjoyed many outings to Mets games with her sons, trips to the beach, picnics at the park, and many more activities that provide long-lasting memories.
Avis was an avid reader. It was common for dozens of books to be on reserve at the local library with many more after that soon to be read. She was a competitive Contract Bridge player, loved crossword puzzles, was very sharp on all life’s details up until the peaceful end of her long life.
In her career as a bookkeeper for a large automotive dealership, she kept impeccable records, managed her department effectively, and was well-respected.
She is survived by sons Steve Darst of Apex, North Carolina, Larry Darst of Hackettstown, his wife June, and 6 grandchildren, Alex, Brittany, Kevin, Daniel, Sean and Faith.
Funeral services will be held at the Hackettstown Union Cemetery on April 27, 2022, at 1:00 pm. She will be interred next to Harold J. Darst.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Heart Association, NJ Affiliate Memorials Program, 2550 Route 1, New Brunswick, NJ 08901-1939
