Bartku, Louis February 22, 1957 - June 13, 2026

Date of Funeral

June 19, 2026

Louis Bartku, of Hackettstown, NJ, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2026 with his loving family by his side. Born on February 22, 1957, in Newton, New Jersey, he was the son of Julius “Babe” Bartku and Dorothy (Louise) Smith Bartku. He grew up in Hackettstown, NJ, where he spent his life and remained a proud member of the community. A 1976 graduate of Hackettstown High School, he carried the values of hard work and loyalty with him throughout his life.

He was the beloved husband of Gwenn George Bartku and a devoted father to his sons, Gregory and Aaron Bartku, both of Hackettstown.

He retired in 2020 from Heath Village, following a career as a Logistics Manager for various companies across New Jersey. In recognition of his lifelong passion and dedication, he was an honorary lifetime member of the Allamuchy Gun Club.

He found his greatest joy outdoors—hunting alongside his father, his sons Greg and Aaron, and friends from the Allamuchy Gun Club. He also cherished early mornings fly fishing the “hatch of the day” on the Beaverkill and Ausable Rivers with his father-in-law, Roger George, and his sons.

When he wasn’t in the woods or on the water, he loved spending weekends with his wife exploring flea markets, antiquing or heading down to the Jersey Shore. At home, he took pride in keeping busy, always working his way through a steady “honey-do” list with care and dedication.

He will be remembered for his deep love of family, his appreciation for the outdoors, and the quiet, steady way he lived his life—simple, strong, and true.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (www.backcountryhunters.org), supporting the conservation of wild lands and waters for future generations.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2026 from 5 pm – 8 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J…

A graveside service will be held 11:00 am on Friday, June 19, 2026 at Hackettstown Union Cemetery, Mountain Avenue, Hackettstown, N.J. with Rev. Jeannette Hile officiating.
