Betty K. Brodo, 92 of Hackettstown died Friday November 12, 2021 at Colonial Manor in Hackettstown. Betty was born on June 24 1929 in Glen Ridge, NJ the daughter of the late Carl and Ethel (Brundage) Koelble. Betty Graduated from East Orange High School where she met her beloved husband Robert (Bob) Brodo. Betty received her BA in elementary education from Newark State College (now Kean University) and her MA from Seton Hall University.

Betty began her teaching career in Summit and then Lyndhurst where she taught kindergarten in the historic one room  “Little Red Schoolhouse” on River Road as well as Washington, Franklin and Jefferson schools. She then taught in Newark for several years. The last 14 years of her teaching career was as a teacher at the Vailsburg Child Development Center in Newark.

As a member of the Kilburn Memorial Presbyterian Church in Vailsburg, Betty taught Sunday School, was a Cub Scout den mother and a Girl Scout leader for more than 10 years. She served as Deacon, Trustee, Elder and Clerk of Session. Betty also served as president of the Woman’s Association for many years. Upon moving to Maplewood, she joined the Prospect Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, served as Elder and chaired the Christian Education Committee. She belonged to the Woman’s Club of Maplewood where she was Secretary, Treasurer and Chair of the Ways and Means , Hospitality and Performing Arts Departments and served two terms as President. Betty was an officer in the Caldwell Chapter # 61 OES for over 25 years.

Betty and Bob were avid jazz fans and belonged to the New Jersey Jazz Society

On moving to Hackettstown in 2011 Betty joined the First Presbyterian Church in Hackettstown. and became active in the Woman’s Association there.

Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband Bob in 2010. Betty is survived by her son Robert C. Brodo , her daughter Beth DeFelice and her husband Al, her grandson Jason M. Brodo and his wife Brittany and three adorable great grandchildren, Simon, Damian and Annalise

A visitation will be held for family and friends on Monday November 15, 2021 from 4 – 8 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home 905 High Street Hackettstown, NJ.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday November 16, 2021 at 10 am at the funeral home with the Rev, Deacon Jeanett Hile presiding. Interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Caldwell.

In Lieu of flowers donations in her name to the First Presbyterian Church, Hackettstown, NJ, Covenant House, or the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL would be greatly appreciated.

    I am so sorry to hear about your mom. She was a wonderful woman. I will always remember your folks playing bridge with my folks all those years. The fun times we had as kids during the teacher’s convention weekend. I will miss your mom very much. Rest in peace Aunt Betty.
