Casier, Maria J. October 31, 1931 - July 29, 2022

Maria J Casier, of Hackettstown, NJ passed away peacefully on July 29, 2022, surrounded by her daughters.

Maria was born in Belgium on October 31, 1931. After the war, Maria, along with her family, departed on a ship to South America, looking for a new start in life, in Paraguay. Maria met her husband, Joris, on this ship. After 20 years in Paraguay, Maria & Joris immigrated to the United States, where they continued their life with their 5 children, in NJ.

Maria worked for Pfizer in Morris Plains, for many years, until she eventually retired.

Maria was a kind soul and her family always came first. She devoted much of her time caring for her son Freddie, who was born with Spina Bifida. She loved taking walks and spending time over coffee with her friends.

She was an expert at knitting and crocheting. She made coats and sweaters, as well as beautiful blankets. Maria loved to travel north to visit her sister, where she could see the leaves change and visit the wineries with her husband.

Maria is predeceased by her husband Joris, of 42 years; her parents Francisco and Ana Peeters; her son Freddie; granddaughter Analindi; and her brothers, Bennie, Jan, Edward, and Lodewick Peeters, as well as her sister, Augusta, all of Belgium.

She is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Ludgardis Moxhet (VT) and Godelieve Romanowski (Germany); her brother Florent Peeters (NJ), her daughters Marlene (husband John) Quinlan and Sigrid (husband Al) Sorg; sons Christian and Dirk Casier, daughter in law Veronica,  grandchildren Sean (Andrea) Quinlan, Erin (Bob) Yeisley, Melisa (Alan) Andre,  Casey (Josh) Ury, Lindsey (Johnny) Falivene, Bridget (Tim) Richawy, Heather (Kyle) Cremeens,  Sabrina Sorg, Colette Casier, Trudi (Jimmy) Kopec, and Maddie Casier.   She also leaves behind 21 precious great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that reside throughout different parts of the world.  She will be greatly missed and never forgotten by her family and friends.

A funeral service is scheduled for Friday August 5th  from 4:00 – 7:30 pm, followed by a prayer service by Pastor Mario Spardaro at Cochran’s Funeral Home on High Street in Hackettstown.

You most likely don’t know me but I worked at HOTGS for many years and knew your Mom well. She was such a sweet lady . I spent much time with her. My fondest memories of Maria are her being so excited when I complemented her on the sweaters she wore and crafted herself. Her eyes lit up with appreciation. Of course her devotion to Freddie was memorable also. May she rest in peace.
