June Marilyn Chivell Cummins 88, of Liberty Township, passed away Monday November 7, 2022, surrounded by family at her home. Born August 12, 1934, in Northampton County. She was the daughter of the late William Chivell and the late Anna Woodward Chivell. After her mother passed, at a young age, June was raised by her Cousin Anna Blundin.

She attended Easton Area Schools graduating in 1951. She continued her studies at The Easton Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1954 as a registered nurse, specializing in pediatrics. She was the wife of the late Carl E. Cummins with whom she shared 35 years of marriage, prior to his death in 1991. June and Carl met when she roomed with Carl’s sister Clara (Cummins) Fretz in nursing school.

She started her career at Dover General Hospital, then worked as an Oncology nurse in Denville and Morristown for 37 years. June loved helping people and did so throughout her career.

She enjoyed traveling, doing work with her church, raking hay on her farm and spending time with her family. She was also a member of The Daughters of The American Revolution. June is survived by her children Susan Cruz (Primitivo), Nancy Bruner, Sandy Durkin (Jay), Betty Haddock, Carl Cummins (Terri), fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by sister in-law Betty Drake (Dale), brother in-law Parkes Cummins and Cousins Rosemarie (Blundin) Mattison, Richard Blundin and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on November 26, 2022 at 10:30 am at the Free Union Methodist Church followed by a graveside service at The Pequest Union Cemetery in Great Meadows.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given to the Free Union Methodist Church or the Independence Volunteer Fire Department.

    I am so sorry to read about your Mom. I have thought about both of you each day since I returned to Michigan. It is never easy to loose a parent.
