Mary Donovan, age 93, of Newton, NJ died Monday, June 12, 2023 at Barn Hill Care Center of Newton, NJ. Mary was born February 14, 1930 in Ireland. She is the daughter of the late Thomas and Maria Lavin. In addition to her parents Mary was preceded in death by her husband John Donovan, her two daughters, Patricia and Kathleen Donovan, a brother Patrick Lavin and a sister Kathleen Lavin.

She was previously a self-employed Home Health Aide. Mary was an avid reader of Agatha Christie mystery novels and enjoyed watching Agatha Christie TV shows. She grew up on a farm in Ireland, moved to the US in 1949 and married her beloved husband in 1960. She raised her 4 children and was a devoted mother, sister grandmother and great grandmother.

Mary is survived by her loving son, Robert Donovan, her daughter, Bridie Phelan and her husband John, three grandchildren, Crystal Donovan, Erin Donovan and Brian Donovan, two great grandchildren, Xander and Wesley Faller, two sisters, Anne Lavin, Agnes Connelly and her husband Martin, nieces and nephews, Ann Lavin, Patrick Lavin, Sean, Michael and Matthew Connelly, Ann and Elizabeth Connolly.

The funeral mass will be held 10:30 am on Friday, June 16, 2023 at St. Theodore R. C. Church, 855 Route 57, Port Murray, NJ with Father Damian Tomiczek officiating. Burial will be in Hackettstown Union Cemetery, Hackettstown, NJ following the service.

Visitation hours will be Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 1- 4 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ.
