Betty R. Filson of Long Valley, New Jersey, passed away on November 6, 2026, at the age of 94.

Betty was born July 7, 1932, in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Nathaniel Stephen Addiss and Elizabeth DeVall Addiss (née Ricks). She grew up in Huntington, Long Island with her parents and older brother Richard Addiss.

Betty was a graduate of Huntington High School and throughout her life worked as a telephone operator, store clerk for W.T. Grant, and Specials Officer for the Mendham Borough Police Department. A prolific and talented sewer, Betty made over 150 quilts for family and friends and often sewed pillowcases donated to troops overseas. Betty also enjoyed playing the organ and was an avid birdwatcher and nature enthusiast. Of all she accomplished, Betty’s most cherished role was that of devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Betty married her soulmate Daniel P. Filson on May 15, 1955, in Huntington. They shared 63 wonderful years together and raised four children. She is survived by her daughter Susan Love and husband Kevin Love; son Stephen Filson and wife Kimberly Filson; daughter Tracey Emley; and daughter Patricia Freitag and husband Todd Freitag; thirteen grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Betty was predeceased by her loving husband, her parents, and her older brother.

At Betty’s request, there will not be a public service. Her family will hold a private memorial to celebrate her life.
