March 30, 2024 at 8:12 pmI can’t think of Aunt Peg without having happy childhood memories. She had become a 4-H leader and started teaching me (and others) to sew, around 1960, when I was just 7 years old. Thanks to her patience, I was able to make my prom dress, formal dresses, my wedding dress, casual clothes, and even clothes for my babies. She also encouraged me to make messy “surprise” birthday cakes for my parents in her kitchen. I’m sure all of my generation of Kirby’s and Freeborns family will fondly remember the Memorial Day family picnics that she and Uncle Pete held at their home on the hill. Sometimes, she would take me with her as she took fresh jars of coffee and lemonade to Uncle Pete as he worked in the fields on hot summer days. I remember her gardens with the colorful gourds.
I could go on, but the bottom line is that Aunt Peg was a sweet blessing in my life and will be forever remembered.
Thank you, Aunt Peg and I am sure that God blesses you.
