Jessie Elizabeth Gillespie, age 93, of Hackettstown passed peacefully, September 21, 2024. Jessie was born June 1, 1931 in Scranton, PA. She is the daughter of the late Harry and Margaret (Dooley) Williams. In addition to her parents, Jessie is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Blaine Gillespie, Jr., her cherished daughter, Sharon Gillespie, her 6 brothers and sisters, Joseph, Paul, Frank and James Williams, Roberta Klees and Harriet Williams.
Jessie was previously employed by Newfoundland Post Office, Newfoundland, NJ as a Postal Clerk for 20 years before her retirement. Prior to that she worked for DuPont De Nemours of Wilmington, DE, where she met Jim, the love of her life. She was a lifelong member of The United Methodist Church, most recently Trinity in Hackettstown. Throughout her life she was known for her love of walking, and her collection of Cardinals that were displayed around her house. She developed many lasting friendships along her journey in Newfoundland, East Stroudsburg, and at Brittany Manor in Hackettstown. She will be most remembered for her steadfast love of her family and her friends.
Jessie is survived by her two daughters, Colleen Richardson and husband Wayne, Erin Vermeulen and husband Steven, a son, Brian Gillespie and wife Eve, three grandchildren, Wayne A. Richardson and wife Miriam, Natalie McGarvey and husband Daniel, Leah Vermeulen, great granddaughter, Selah Richardson, a sister in law Marie Williams, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held Friday, September 27 from 2-5 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ followed by a funeral service at 5:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Neil Lines officiating. A repast will follow.
