Giordano, Dolores December 29, 2023

Dolores (Caggiano) Giordano, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and valued member of the Independence Township community, has passed away, leaving behind a profound impact on those she touched throughout her life. A true Jersey-girl, she was born in Glen Ridge, raised in Montclair and has been a resident of Independence Township for the past 56 years, alongside her beloved husband, Robert Giordano, Mayor of Independence.

In addition to being survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, she leaves behind her loving daughters, Christina Biamonte and Adrienne E. Giordano, as well as her beloved grandchildren, Amanda and husband Gerrit Kinney, Nicholas and wife Beth Biamonte, Alyssa Biamonte and fiancé Phil Abshire, son-in-law Christopher Biamonte and her precious sister Anita Ditore. Additionally, Dolores’ great-granddaughters, Addison Kinney and Gia Marie Biamonte were also recipients of her boundless love and wisdom and will be grateful for the time they had with her. She is predeceased by her parents Michael and Margaret (Sobers) Caggiano, and brother-in-law Anthony Ditore. She was also loved and will be remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Outside of the home, Dolores’ impact extended beyond her family. Of special mention, she served as secretary for Garabed “Chuck” Haytaian during his tenure as the New Jersey Assembly Speaker of the House, which served to affirm her dedication to public service. Also, as a former secretary to the Warren County Republican Club, she further demonstrated her commitment to community and civic engagement. But perhaps her favorite role was advocating for the establishment of the Warren County Library in Independence Township. After achieving that rewarding success, Dolores went on to be a founding member of The Friends of Library and served for many years as a dedicated volunteer. She also served for decades with the Warren County Election Board as a faithful poll worker. Dolores found great fulfillment in all of this and more, leaving a lasting impact in her community for the people she loved.

However, above all else, Dolores found her greatest pride and joy in her role as a mother and grandmother. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering love enriched the lives of her family, leaving behind a deep and rich well of treasured memories that will endure for generations to come. Her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

In honoring the memory of Dolores Giordano, her family and community will celebrate her lifeat Cochran’s Funeral Home on Thursday, January 4th from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. A brief memorial service will be held at approximately 5:30 pm. The family will hold a private interment at another time.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice of Newton, New Jersey who provided Dolores marvelous care or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Way, Memphis, TN a charity which she earnestly supported in prayer and resources since her youth.

Whenever I had occasion to speak with Mrs. Giordano, she was very warm and welcoming. I just thought she carried herself with dignity and friendliness. I can only imagine how much her family will miss her. She and Bob contributed greatly to their community. This is such a great loss.
