Genevieve Godlewsky (Sosnovik), 93, of Great Meadows, NJ , passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Regional Medical Center in Hackettstown, NJ, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 5, 1931, at home in Blairstown, NJ, to the late John and Mary Smegoski Sosnovik. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph S. Godlewsky, who passed away on August 4, 1992 and her eldest son Joseph B. Godlewsky who passed away June 12 th 2023.

Genevieve spent her life in Warren County, beginning her career as a beautician before embracing life as a farmer’s wife / mother and eventually taking on the role of the matriarch and owner of Godlewsky Farms and Greenhouses. She was affectionately known as “Grandma” and was cherished by customers for her warm presence at the checkout counter with her signature rosary wrapped around her wrist, her bike rides around the farm, and her deep devotion to prayer.

A devout Catholic, Genevieve had a profound love for the Latin Tridentine Mass. She was a parishioner and one of the original founders of St. Anthony of Padua SSPX Parish in North Caldwell NJ and a founding member of the Third (Secular) Order of Our Blessed Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Teresa of Jesus (Third Order Carmelites).

Genevieve was also a lifelong parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Church in Great Meadows, NJ, where she started the Blue Army Cell group of Apostolate of Our Lady of Fatima, a member of the Rosary Altar Society, a member of the Choir known for her soprano Angelic voice, and taught catechism for many years.

Her daily rosary prayers, often shared with her children, were a cornerstone of her spiritual life. She held a close relationship with the Franciscan Friars of the renewal. She was a role model of humility, faith, and devotion. In her early life she was a postulant for a year at Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace in Englewood NJ.

She was predeceased by her five brothers Stanley, Stephen, Theodore, Edward, and Joseph, and her three sisters Sophie Bolzan, Irene Opydyke, and Theresa Rush.

Genevieve is survived by her son Richard Godlewsky and his wife JoAnne; her four daughters: Patricia Godlewsky Swider and husband Thomas, Barbara Horutz and husband Dave, Catherine Bill and husband Robert, and Linda Godlewsky-Ugi and husband David. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Tricia Betterly and husband Philip, Rachael Simmons and husband Brant, Stefania Swider, Justin Bill and wife Katie, Gregory Bill and wife Alexis, Catherine, Andrew, Peter, Michael, and Dominic Godlewsky; and she was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Audrey, Jillian, and Aria Bill, and Micah Simmons. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and close friends who will miss her dearly.

Visitation hours will be Thursday, August 28th 4 to 8 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ.

The funeral mass will be held 10:30 am on Friday, August 29 th at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 103 Gould Avenue, North Caldwell, NJ with Father Kevin Robinson officiating.

Burial will be approximately 2pm following the service held at Pequest Union Cemetery, 30 Cemetery Road, Great Meadows NJ.

A repast will be held after the burial at the Parish Hall of Saints Peter and Paul Church, 360 US Highway 46, Great Meadows, NJ.

    She was one of the kindest people you would ever meet….when ever we stopped by she always asked about my mom….and wanted to know how she was doing…that’s just who she was…I’ve known the entire family from st. Mary’s and beyond… if you believe in heaven.. She certainly is there now…rest in peace….

    Sorry to hear about Mrs. Godlewski. I remember her at the greenhouses every summer when I came to nuy flowers and vegetables. Later, I got to know the whole family through HHS. I believe your mom and grandma is now tending God’s flowers in heaven.

    With my deepest sympathies to the Godlewsky family on your loss. Aunt Jenny was an important part of my family during those years we lived so close together. She was always kind and helpful, making it easier to put in those long hours out on the muck. She will be missed.
