William (Bill) A. Goerlitz, age 90, of Hackettstown died Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at House of the Good Shepherd of Hackettstown. William was born December 8, 1931 in Scranton, PA to the late Frederick and Frieda (Fuchs) Goerlitz. In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by his beloved wife, Davida Goerlitz in February of 2006, his sisters, Madeline Kegel and her husband Donald Kegel, and Eleanor Goerlitz.
Bill was employed by Jersey Central Power and Light/GPU for 32 years in both Morristown, NJ and Reading, Pa as a Transportation Engineer, starting out as a mechanic. He retired on January 31, 1992. Prior to working at JCP&L he worked with his uncle in the coal and ice business in Scranton. He was an avid animal lover, enjoyed classic cars, watching NASCAR and collecting vintage car models. Bill was a member of the Highlands Presbyterian Church, Schooley’s Mountain, NJ and loved spending time with his devoted son and daughter in law.
He is survived a son, Frederick Goerlitz and wife Tracy, three nephews, James, John and David Waddell and a niece, Leslie Waddell.
The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, September 15 at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover following the service.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 14 from 7-9 pm at Cochran Funeral Home.
