Gomez, Frank J., Jr. January 28, 1934 - November 28, 2023

Frank J. Gomez, Jr., age 89, of Hackettstown, NJ died Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at Newton Memorial Hospital.  Frank was born January 28, 1934 in Lyons, NJ to the late Frank J. and Antoinette (Carfaro) Gomez.  In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by a sister, Carmela DeBiasse.

Frank was the co-owner of F&S Painters, Chester, NJ for many years before his retirement.  Throughout his life, Frank’s defining thread was serving his community by being a volunteer and devoted member to many organizations, ultimately earning him the nickname, “Go-Go Gomez.”  In his younger years, he could be seen on the sidelines of the Mendham Patriots Football field and Chester Little League, where he coached his sons’ teams.  He had been a proud member of the Mt. Kemble Fire Department and Mendham Pastime Club.  Frank also served as a Councilman and Member of the Planning Board in Chester Twp., before moving to Long Valley and serving on the Washington Twp. Planning Board.  Upon moving to Knowlton, NJ in the mid 90’s, Frank found his philanthropic place with the Knowlton Lions Club, where he was a former President, and dedicated much of his time raising funds to help others.  In 2017, Frank was recognized for his years of service by being inducted into the Warren County Senior Hall of Fame.  Of all of Frank’s accomplishments, he will be remembered most for his funny sense of humor, never failing to be at the ready with a silly joke to bring a smile to everyone that he encountered.  He was hard working, fiercely loyal to his family and friends, and always leaned into doing what was right.  He will be missed greatly beyond expression.

Frank is survived by his wife Loretta Balestrieri Gomez, his three daughters, Teri Byron, Dina Putz and husband Reiner, Jenni Hoffman and husband Rich, two sons, Frank W. Gomez, Steven Gomez and wife Sue.  He was especially proud of his four grandchildren, Nicholas Copen, Caroline Copen, Sarah Putz and Brielle Gomez.  Frank leaves behind three sisters, Josephine Megaro, Gloria Robertson, Maryann Gomez and husband Lon Bannett, two brothers Louis Gomez, Larry Gomez and wife Linda, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation will be Thursday, November 30, 2023 from 4-8 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ with a memorial service beginning at 7:30 pm.  Cremation was private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Knowlton Township Lions Club, 568 Route-94, Columbia, NJ 07832 in memory of Frank.
