In Loving Memory of Erika Kristen Smith Hammonds.
Erika, aged 53, of Hackettstown, NJ, departed from our lives unexpectedly on February 27th, 2024, leaving her family and friends profoundly saddened by her loss.
Born in Dover General Hospital to Michael and Karen Smith, Erika was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend. She graduated from Hackettstown High School in 1988 and pursued her passion for cosmetology, eventually transitioning into a successful career in real estate.
Erika met her husband Burke over 28 years ago, a meeting sparked by her work in hair styling. Shortly after marrying, Burke and Erika welcomed their beautiful daughter Paige Mary into the world, whom Erika cherished deeply. The bond between mother and daughter was inseparable, bringing immense joy and fulfillment to Erika’s life.
Family and friends were at the heart of Erika’s world. She relished spending time with loved ones, sharing stories, and creating cherished memories. Erika held a special place in her heart for all of her closest circle of friends, with whom she shared countless laughter-filled moments. Her welcoming presence endeared her to all who knew her, drawing people near with her genuine warmth and generosity of spirit.
Her siblings held Erika in high regard, treasuring the memories they created together. Erika truly loved all her siblings, but she had a special bond with Mike, sharing a unique connection that brought them even closer. Erika’s warmth, kindness, infectious laughter, and welcoming presence enriched their lives, leaving a permanent mark on their hearts.
Despite facing chronic medical challenges throughout her life, Erika’s approached each day with unwavering strength and resilience. She bore her burdens with grace, never allowing her pain to dampen her spirit. Now, free from suffering, Erika’s spirit soars among the angels.
Though we mourn her passing, we find solace in the knowledge that Erika’s vibrant spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Until we meet again, may her memory be a beacon of light and love in our lives.
Erika is survived by her husband, Burke Hammonds, daughter, Paige Hammonds, father and mother, Michael and Karen Smith, sister, Keri Smith-Tracy (Kevin Tracy), Colleen Kazimir (Darren Kazimir), brother, Michael Smith (Heather Young-Smith) and nephew, Cullen Kazimir.

Erika was a not only a friend and real estate colleague but she was also our agent when we sold our home in 2022 – it was a difficult time for my husband and myself, but her positive energy and fighting spirit kept us going.
