Douglas Robert Hinton of Hackettstown, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Hackettstown Medical Center. He was born on March 25, 1938 to the late Douglas L. and Jessie (Thomson) Hinton.
Doug was a kind and generous soul, known for his insatiable curiosity and love of learning. Alongside his beloved wife, Cathy, he spent countless hours reading and exploring a wide array of subjects. Their shared passion for knowledge often inspired them to support various charitable organizations, making modest yet meaningful contributions that reflected their desire to make the world a better place.
In his late teens, Doug joined the Army, embarking on a journey that would take him to Germany and later to Washington, DC. He took great pride in his service, especially his time working on the Presidential Helicopter for President Lyndon Johnson.
After his military service, Doug became the owner and operator of Douglas Cleaners in Morris Plains, NJ. His dedication to his work and community continued as he later took on the role of Maintenance Mechanic at Morris View Nursing Home.
Doug was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Cathleen, his parents, Douglas and Jessie Hinton, his brothers Stanley, Thomas, Jack, and Donald, and his cherished cat,JoJo, who was his constant companion.
He is survived by his brother Gary and his wife Irene, his sister Jean and her husband Robert, and his stepchildren Rosmary Hluska, Elizabeth Edwards, and David Lawless. Doug also leaves behind twelve nephews and nieces who will forever remember his warmth and generosity.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, as requested by the family. In lieu of flowers, online donations in Doug’s honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
