Valentino, my favorite wise-guy: I appreciate and miss you so very much. As I write, the scent of eggplant parm comes from the kitchen. Although I used your recipe, nothing I cook will ever match the delicious meals you made. Mark and I also have many tangible reminders of your talent and generosity such as our wishing well, deck railings and divider, built-in bedroom closets, printer cabinet … and Sunset Lodge sign. When you took your last breath, in peace with your children by your side, the sun was setting in quiet beauty and I looked at the sign. You will forever be in the sunsets for me, dear friend. XO Lise

I met Valentino in the late ’90s when he was helping Bill MacGray prepare footings for The Lord’s Oasis Lighthouse at Budd Lake Chapel. This began a long-term friendship among the three of us that involved lots of building and Christian fellowship.
When I moved to North Carolina in 2000 to do flood relief work for Habitat For Humanity, Val would visit (sometimes for extended periods) and mentor me in various building practices. His tutelage in construction skills enabled me to help equip numerous other Habitat volunteers to do the work we both loved. In North Carolina, as the only white men in an all Black church, we two northerners were joyfully embraced.
Valentino assisted with numerous projects at my Lake Hopatcong home. Together we helped out many friends and worked with the Fuller Center in Indianapolis. We both enjoyed camping, fishing, canoeing, sailing, and square dancing. Bible studies were a staple in our times together.
Valentino: Thanks for being a special friend and mentor. I’m frequently reminded of you as I look around our home. I love you, Val!

Dad, I will always miss you and think of you daily. I wish life could have gone differently for all of us. But, God had a different plan for us and knew we could handle our path. Until we meet again, I love you daddy.
    Your daughter,
    Christina

It was our pleasure to get to know Valentino. He and his hot tea were always at our square dances. He even shared some with me. I will not divulge his ‘secret’ tea ingredient but will always remember that. 🙂 Sending our condolences to the entire Ianetti family. Victor & Lea Keen / Reelers Squaredance Club
