Richard (Dick) Eugene Wickel was born January 30, 1932 in Floral Park, New York, and passed away at home in Oxford, New Jersey on February 12, 2022 shortly after his 90th  birthday.

Dick was an Army veteran, earned a Bachelor’s degree from Pace University in New York, and worked as an accountant at AT&T for 27 years and subsequently at Berkeley Federal Savings Bank.  Dick was active in his parish communities of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in West Hempstead NY, St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in East Millstone NJ and

St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church in Califon NJ.  Dick was known for his strong faith and his grateful outlook on life.  He was well loved and devoted to his large family and many friends. Dick was happily married to Marilyn for 63 years, a father to 6 daughters, and grandfather to 19 and a great grandfather to 1. His kindness and generosity will be deeply missed by all.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Frederic and Anne (McQuiston) Wickel, his siblings Fred, Marianne, and Lucille, and his wife, Marilyn (McCormack) Wickel.  He is survived by his daughters: Susan (Todd) Degerdon, Rosemary (Carlos) Santos, Margaret (Attila) Janaszik, Carol (Randy) Johnson, Marie DeSalvo, and Jean Ortiz. He is also survived by his grandchildren Christopher (Dana), Kelly, Julia, Megan (Brendan), Justin, Mimi, Bryan, Ian, Carly, Katherine, Ryan, Lianna, Sarah, Jena, Toni, Jodi, Keith, Selena, and Immanuel and great granddaughter, Siena.

Visitation will be at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm. A memorial mass to celebrate Dick’s life will be held Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 12:00 noon Saint John Neumann Roman Catholic Church, 398 County Road 513, Califon, NJ 07860.
