Gregory Kasperowitz, 66, of Long Valley, New Jersey passed peacefully into eternal life on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at his home, with his wife by his side, after a long and difficult battle with cancer.
Greg was born in the Bronx, New York to Olga (Soloway) and the late Walter Kasperowitz on October 22, 1957. Walter and Olga were both children of Russian immigrant parents. Greg grew up in the Bronx with a strong Russian heritage.
As a teenager, Greg and his parents moved from the Bronx to Long Valley, New Jersey where he resided for the rest of his life. Greg graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Hartford with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, and then earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Rutgers University, with the additional distinction of being the Accountant Student of the Year, subsequently accepting a position with Honeywell in Teterboro, NJ. As a steadfast employee, Greg worked his way up to the position of Director of Payroll, from which he eventually took an early retirement in 2007. Not one to lay idle, and having served on the Library Board of Trustees for many years, Greg accepted a position as Finance Manager at the Washington Township Public Library in Long Valley which he maintained throughout his illness, until just weeks before his death. While working at Honeywell, Greg met the love of his life, Carol (Hanson) and they were married in 1989. Shortly thereafter, they bought a home in Long Valley, on the same street Greg grew up on, where they raised their daughter, Anna. Greg and his family lived in the same home for thirty-three years and were active members of the community of Long Valley, as well as being active parishioners at The Elevation of the Holy Cross Russian Orthodox Church in Hackettstown, and then at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church in Randolph, NJ. Besides his participation in local community and church activities, Greg was a long-time basketball player in the town recreation department. He especially enjoyed spending time at home with his family, gardening, and taking long walks with his wife, Carol in their beloved meadow. Greg treasured his daughter, Anna, and together they shared common interests in the strange and unusual, providing many special memories.
Greg was predeceased by his father, Walter Kasperowitz, and his best friend, Boris the Cat, aka King White Paws. In addition to his wife, Carol, and his daughter, Anna, Greg is survived by his mother, Olga Kasperowitz, along with a large extended family of brothers-in- law, sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
The funeral visitation will be held from 1-5 pm on January 19, 2024 at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ with services beginning at 4:30 pm with Father Andrew Messey officiating.
