Katzenstein, Audrey B. August 3, 1939 - May 3, 2021

Audrey B. Katzenstein, 81 a longtime resident of Randolph, NJ before moving to Middletown, NY in the late 90’s, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 3, 2021.  Beloved mother, grandmother (Nana), great grandmother and friend to so many.  She was born August 3, 1939 at the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey, NJ to Beatrice Belle Moore and Michael Leininger. Audrey was a graduate of Parsippany Hills High School.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, “John Boy” John S. Katzenstein III in 1994.  Audrey was well known throughout the dirt track racing community with the “Gone Plum Crazy” #265 race team.  Many knew her through her involvement and passion to help others, volunteering at the local shelters and the many years involved with the annual Matheny Christmas party.  At the races you would find Audrey in the pits with her clipboard, a friendly smile, and a hot coffee.  Audrey was a comfortable presence across several east cast tracks throughout the years.  Outside of racing Audrey was an awesome cook, great friend and always had an open door policy willing to help others in any way she could.

Survived by her children and their families: Robert J. Sheldon, Cindy Sheldon & daughter Alexandra of Jacksonville, FL; Richard C. Sheldon, wife Kathy (preceded in death) Smithfield, VA; & his children Kelly Sue Sheldon, Casey Sheldon & their families; Colleen Van Ness, husband Michael & Brianna & Michael (Independence, NJ); David Marzak, wife Lisa, Lubbock, TX and their children & their families.

Audrey will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.

A burial of ashes are to be held at a later date.

    So sorry for your loss, there could not have been a nicer, warmer face to see at all the northeast dirt tracks, thank you Audrey for giving me my first break in Dirt Modified Racing. I’m glad I got to know you and John Many years ago. You will be greatly missed. My condolences to all your children and grand children.
