Jeanne C. Kwartler, age 77, of Union City, NJ died Saturday, March 12, 2022. Jeanne was born December 3, 1944 in Albany, NY. She is the daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Auerbach) Kwartler, MD.

KWARTLER, JEANNE.  Daughter of Ruth and Charles.  Sister of Alice and David.  Lifelong friend of Marcia Aronoff.  A strong, funny, fierce presence.  Unwavering, unstoppable and unapologetic.  A pioneer in the field of domestic violence.  She worked in the New York State Legislature and the Governor’s Office.  Ultimately, she worked directly with survivors of domestic abuse incarcerated in Bedford Hills Correctional Facility.  She was integral to the writing of New York’s initial Domestic Violence legislation.  She is forever loved by “her women.”

Marcia, Alice, and Daviid: I’m so very sorry to learn that Jeanne has left this world although I know she did much good when she was here,. I remember our school days in Hackettstown when we were always trying to solve the world’s problems. No subject was too foreign or too deep for us! I remember the summer of 1963, when Alice was invited to a wedding in Atlantic City, Jeanne and I went along for the ride, and while Ali was at the wedding, Jeanne and I went on the rides at the amusement park; even we had to sometimes escape the grave problems of the world I remember when Jeanne turned age 25 and brother David called her up and repeatedly said, “A quarter of a century, a quarter of a century, a quarter of a century..” He was still playing the role of the little brother, ribbing his sister. Another familial photo: every time the rescue squad siren or the fire department blast went off, Jeanne ran to the phone and called her Dad to say “Are you still there? Is the plant still there?” She always worried a great deal about possibility of danger at the chemical plant.
The Kwartlers . . . such good people . . . I’ll always very fondly remember them. My deepest sympathy.

A belated thank you to a first friend when I moved to the Hackettstown area as a freshman in 1958. I remember long conversations on walks home after school. I’m glad for the chance to reconnect, tho only briefly, at our 50th. Be at peace after a life devoted to others. Condolences to your family.

You sister was a light in the dark world to many of us. She provided a healing place without judgement so I was to work though traumatic events and lead me back to being whole again. I am sorry for your loss and my prayers are with your family.
