LaVecchia, Janie Rose November 7, 2020

Janie Rose LaVecchia (Gorman) 66, of Valrico, FL passed away on Nov. 7th, 2020. She will be forever missed by her children, Eric (FL), Keith (NY), and Desiree LaVecchia (NY); brother, William Gorman (NJ); dear friend, Betsy Quinn Finkle (FL); and her extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her mother, Madeline Gorman (Kelly); father, William George Gorman Sr.; and sisters Ann Smith and Patti Lavin.

Janie brought her unique humor to every situation and was irreverent despite her physical limitations. She had the best laugh, and left everyone she knew with loving (and funny) memories. Janie loved gelato, Words with Friends, crocheting, volunteering in her community, reading mystery novels, and getting good books into the hands of kids. She was open-hearted and once she knew you, you were family. She worked for many years at Mintz Elementary School as both a Kindergarten Aide and an Assistant Librarian. Every morning, as a hall monitor, she would sing the words of some of her favorite musicians, Simon and Garfunkel, “Slow down, you move too fast. You got to make the morning last.” She touched the lives of so many.

A memorial service will be held in New Jersey when it is safe to gather in extremely large groups again.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to Reach Out & Read.

Janie, may you rest in peace. I will always remember the fun times we had in high school and you honoring me as one of my beautiful bridesmaids. Look for Jack he will hold your hand and keep you safe.

Desiree, My heart is so sad to hear that your Mom passed away. Wanda called me the same day you spoke to her. We are both shocked and sad that we will not be having Retired Girls lunches anymore with Janie. We all loved her, and she was such a sweet friend, and yes funny too. God be with you and your brothers. Love Peggy Mattox
