Joseph P. Mahal, age 89, of Hackettstown died Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center. Joseph was born March 9, 1932 in Wilkes Barre, PA to the late Joseph and the late Mary (McHugh) Mahal. In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his brother, Frank.
Joe served proudly in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was previously employed by Hackettstown School District, Hackettstown, NJ as a History Teacher for 34 years before retiring. In addition, Joe was a Football Coach and a Track and Field Official for the school district. He was a parishioner of Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Mary, Hackettstown and a member of the American Legion both of Hackettstown. Most of all Joe enjoyed being a grandfather, always attending their sporting events and cheering them on.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Theresa (Ozgo) Mahal, his loving son, Joseph Mahal and wife Catherine and his four cherished grandchildren, Peter, Joseph, George, and Carly.
Visitation will be held at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 from 10am – 1pm.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 12 at 1 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J. with Father Antony Arockiadoss officiating. Burial will be in Pequest Union Cemetery, Great Meadows following the service.
