Marjorie Virginia Schafetz June 1, 2020

Marjorie Virginia Schafetz, “Marge”, of Kissimmee, Florida, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 1, 2020 at the age of 79, after a valiant battle with lymphoma. It would be wrong to say that Marge lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. She exhibited strength and a positive spirit throughout her fight in spite of enduring many set backs along the way. Her intentions were to beat this disease, similar to how she beat breast cancer, fifteen years prior.

Marge was born and raised in Manhattan, New York. In 1969, she moved with her family to New Jersey and was a stay at home mom for many years. She also had lengthy and successful careers in both the school system in Long Valley, New Jersey and as an Administrative Assistant in the Cancer Registry Department of Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, New Jersey. Marge retired in 2017 and moved to Florida in 2018, which had been a dream of hers for many years. She purchased a beautiful home, made many new friends and set about enjoying life in the warmer weather. Marge was very active in her community, Solivita, and also volunteered at the local hospital a few days a week. Marge also kept in touch with her many good friends back in New Jersey and traveled back and forth often. Marge loved her precious kitties, Snuggles, Mia and Sophia, things that sparkle, butterflies, and the color purple, as anyone that knows her would tell you.
Marge was a woman of faith and attended church on a regular basis. Recently, with the Covid restrictions in place, she was attending Zoom services and coffee hours at St. James Episcopal Church in Hackettstown, New Jersey, which brought her much joy. She was able to enjoy the familiarity of a church and parish that she loved for so many years and was also able to reconnect with friends that she had lost touch with.
Marge is predeceased by her husband, Solomon Schafetz and her parents Lillian Salt and Ira Beach. She is survived by her children, Cynthia Kalen, Christopher Jordan (Diane), Timothy Jordan (Paula) and Keith Jordan (Nicole); her step children, Jerry Schafetz (Suzanne), Donna Schafetz, and Susan Schafetz Richards; her grandchildren, Emily Kalen, Garrett Jordan (Lenka), Abigail Kalen, Connor Jordan (Paraskevi), Parker Jordan, Macey Jordan, Kaitlyn Jordan, Kyle Jordan, Aubrey Jordan and Adriana Jordan; her step grandchildren, Tina Richards Humphrey (Paul), Andrew Richards (Barbara), and Jessica Reynolds (Andrew); her sister Marylin McCusker; her nephews, James McCusker (Ana), Michael McCusker (Kim), Stephen McCusker (Kelly) and her niece Kerry McCusker Szoludko (Alex).

A Memorial Service in celebration of Marge’s life will be held on Monday, June 29, 2020 at 10:00 am at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, New Jersey.  All are welcome to come pay their respects, face masks are required.  As of 6/10/2020 – COVID restictions have changed,  50 people are allowed in the funeral home at a time, however, distancing is suggested.  This is subject to change daily, should you hace questions please call the funeral home at 908-852-3361.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Marge’s honor to The American Cancer Society https://www.cancer.org/ or North Shore Animal League America https://www.animalleague.org/
