William J. McNulty

April 2, 1933 to February 17, 2022

William J. McNulty, age 88, passed peacefully in his sleep at Heath Village, Hackettstown, New Jersey on February 17, 2022.   He was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 2, 1933, to the late William McNulty and Mildred (Foster) McNulty. William (Bill) was active in Boy Scouts and was on the football team in high school.  After graduating high school, he enrolled in college, studying Engineering but was drafted into the Army where he served from 1953-55 in the Korean War.  During his time in the Army he was stationed in Turkey and achieved the honor of becoming a Counter Measure Search Specialist and earned a National Defense Service Medal. Upon returning home, Bill began working for Union Carbide as a program analyst and married his High School Sweet heart Nancy (Nealy) McNulty.  Bill and Nancy had three children together, William, Diane (Mikki) and Roger.  Bill was a wonderful father who loved and provided for his family and was supportive of all his children’s activities, among them:  Younger William’s music, Diane’s dance and Roger’s art. He was an avid reader, loved his cars and could fix anything that was broken. The McNulty family moved to Yorktown Heights, New York, in 1972.  Bill and Nancy were fortunate to have had twenty five years together until sadly, Nancy passed in 1980.  Bill was lucky to find love again with Elizabeth (Fagan) McNulty and they married in 1985.  Bill retired from Union Carbide and he and Betsy moved up to beautiful Copake, NY, where they were very involved in the Copake Methodist Church.  Because of Bill’s extensive involvement in the Church he was presented with a recognition plaque which still hangs in the Sanctuary.  Bill and Betsy loved nature and explored the United States in their camper with their dog Muggins, and visited all of the states except for Hawaii, including four times to Alaska, and all the provinces of Canada and parts of Mexico.  They moved to Hawthorn Ridge, near Albany, New York in 2014 where they enjoyed friends and activities at this senior living residence prior to moving to Heath Village in Hackettstown in June of 2021.   Bill was well known by his friends and family to be a true gentleman, always polite and respectful with a dry sense of humor and the master of “Dad Jokes” which were often shared at family gatherings. He is survived by His loving wife, Elizabeth Fagan McNulty, his brother Daniel McNulty and sister- in- law Rosalie McNulty, his Children, William G McNulty and Fiancee, Beth Law, his Daughter Diane (Mikki) Antley and partner David Godshall and his son Roger McNulty and his wife Donna Taylor McNulty.  Also surviving are his grandchildren , Garrett McNulty and partner Megan Hersey, Caitlin Mikolajczk and husband Paul Mikolajczk, JJ McNulty and wife Sabrina McNulty, June Antley, John (Jack) Antley, Angeleena McNulty and partner Adam Pierce. In addition he is survived by two great grandchildren, William Mikolajczk and Atlas James Pierce.  Also surviving are his nephews Kenneth McNulty, Lawrence McNulty and his wife Cristen and Richard McNulty and his wife Neely.    There will be a Methodist Service at Heath Village “The Meadows” in Hickory, 451 Schooley’s Mountain Road, Hackettstown N.J. at 11:00 am on Saturday 2/26/22.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cochran Funeral Home 905 High Street, Hackettstown NJ 07840.  Those wishing to leave an online condolence may do so at www.cochranfuneral.com
