Norma Catherine Ilvento, age 94, passed away this Friday evening, February 5, 2021; she was a woman of grace, beauty, and elegance.
Norma was a loving daughter to Nicholas and Sarah, and a first generation Italian American. She always spoke so fondly of her childhood, being surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins, and those who were close friends who she also called her aunts, uncles, and cousins. She held close to her heart the music, fun, and laughter they created and shared in the grapevine covered backyard of their multi family home in Newark, NJ.
She had a beautiful and long lasting relationship with her sisters Antoinette and Anna and her brother Anthony. Throughout the years, Norma and her sisters would often spend weekends together in one another’s homes sharing their special bond of playing Rummy 500 and Tile. She was a loving big sister to her brother Anthony, he in turn was a best friend to her dear husband John. She loved her many nieces and nephews with her whole heart and that love was genuinely reciprocated.
Norma was married to her adoring husband John, for 69 joyful years. They had a marriage that was enviable to say the least, their love was boundless.
They built a beautiful family with their two children, Lisa and John and settled in Hackettstown, NJ. Lisa and John continue to carry on family traditions and values.
Norma became “Gram” to her grandchildren Kara, Lauren, Nicholas, and Johnny and “GG” to her great grandchildren Cooper, Carter, Rosie, and Milo. And if you were a friend, she was Gram to you too!
Those who were lucky enough to have Norma in their lives were blessed and will cherish their memories of her. Though she will undoubtedly be missed, she is now home and at peace.
Norma was born to Nicholas and Sarah (DiTaranto) Carpinello in Newark, New Jersey. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband John J. Ilvento, her sisters Antoinette Iannarone and Anna Candelmo. She is survived by her children; Lisa (Ilvento) Keelan and husband Jeff; John D.
