Peter Nykun, also known as “Gida” by his friends and family, age 89, of Great Meadows, NJ died Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center, Hackettstown, NJ. Peter was born May 4, 1933 in Great Meadows, NJ. He is the son of the late Michael and Catherine (Kutz) Nykun. In addition to his parents Peter was preceded in death by his brother, George Nykun, his sister, Stella Pryslak.
Peter was a Farmer who started working the Nykun family farm from a very young age, Great Meadows NJ. In addition he was dedicated to his community, volunteering for years with The Independence Township Volunteer Fire Department Station 73, and enjoyed bartending at the Nykun Store and Bar, both in Great Meadows, NJ
He is survived by fiancé Janet Rasely, two daughters, Catherine Mahal and husband Joseph, Mary Nykun and fiancé JR Allen, a son, Michael Nykun, two brothers, Robert Nykun and wife Kathy, Theodore Nykun and wife Jeanie, a sister, Shirley Pryslak, six grandchildren, Peter, Joseph, George, Carly, Timber, and Arrow.
Visitation will be held at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 from 10 am – 1pm. Funeral services will begin at 1pm. Burial will be in Pequest Union Cemetery, Great Meadows following services.
