Marie S. Parsons, age 88, of Hackettstown, NJ died Monday, January 9, 2023 at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center.
Marie was born March 15, 1934 in Perth Amboy, NJ to the late Eric and Marie (Halligan) Scott. In addition to her parents, Marie was preceded in death by beloved husband, Benjamin E.Parsons her brother, John W. Scott, her sister-in-law, Elaine Scott, son-in-law, Charlie H. Koch, daughter-in-law, Teresa Haney Parsons, and daughter-in-law, Karen Manfredi.
Marie was a 48-year resident of Scotch Plains, NJ before moving to Hackettstown, where she was employed by Squire Transportation, Scotch Plains, NJ as an Office Manager. While living in Scotch Plains, she was a member of Fanwood Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and later volunteered in their Thrift Shop.
Marie was an athlete, participating in a Woman’s Softball League, and sports enthusiast. She loved antiquing with friends and her creativity shown through in her lovely gardens. She and Benny also loved vacationing in Maine. Music has been a central theme in Marie’s life playing the violin with her father as a child, singing in church choirs, and as a dedicated patron of the NJ Symphony Orchestra. Marie put her “heart” into the family when celebrating holidays and special events. Her sense of humor was most evident at Halloween; always fully costumed, which some years included her 100-year-old mother! There was always an “open door” at the Parsons’ home frequented by friends and neighbors.
Marie is survived by her sister-in-law, Karen (Kenney) Scott, her devoted daughter, Kim M. Koch and her two sons Scott B. Parsons and Kirk E. Parsons, granddaughter, Jacqueline M. (Koch) Quackenbush and husband Adric, grandson, Brian B. Parsons and fiancé, Lexi Vaughan, grandson Eric C. Koch and wife Kaitlyn, granddaughter, Allyson C. Koch and fiancé Andrew Houser, grandson, Kyle S. Parsons, and five great-grandchildren, Dylan C. Quackenbush, Quentin L. Koch, Abigail M. Quackenbush, Benjamin C. Houser, and Matthew A. Houser.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 14 from 10-11 am at Trinity United Methodist Church, 213 Main St, Hackettstown, NJ 0780. A Service of Remembrance will follow at 11 am, also at the church. Immediately following will be a repast at the home of Frank and Lois Spender, 988 Rockport Rd, Hackettstown NJ 07840. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.
