Date of Funeral

January 10, 2025

Jeffrey Bryan Rattner, 72, of White Township, N.J. died of a short illness on Jan. 7, surrounded by family. A beloved husband, father and grandfather, Jeff will always be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness and love for his family.

Born on Dec. 13, 1952 in Queens, N.Y., Jeff grew up as the son of Stewart and Florence Rattner and was brother to Steve and Laurie. Jeff was raised in the White Meadow Lake section of Rockaway, N.J. He was a proud graduate of Morris Hills High School and William Paterson University.

On April 16, 1972, Jeff married the love of his life, Mary Ann Kaschak, and the two spent 52 wonderful years together. They soon started a family and Jeff doted on daughters Jennifer and Melissa.

Jeff loved the outdoors, going on vacation with his family, his pets, riding his bike and coin collecting. Nothing was more important to Jeff than spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved to laugh and always made others smile with his sharp wit and jokes. Jeff’s life was enriched by the deep friendships he formed throughout his life.

Jeff worked as an industrial sales manager for several different companies over a career that spanned close to five decades.

Jeff is survived by his wife Mary Ann Rattner, his mother Florence Rattner, his daughters Jennifer Rattner-Cagnassola and Melissa Costello, his son-in-law Brian Costello, his brother Steve Rattner, his sister Laurie Babbitt, his sister-in-law Jeanne Rattner and his grandkids Kaileigh Cagnassola, Ryan Cagnassola, Abigail Cagnassola, Julia Cagnassola, Matthew Costello and Alexa Costello, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Stewart Rattner and brother in law John Babbitt.

A service to celebrate Jeff’s life will be held on Jan. 10 from 4-8 p.m. at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High St., Hackettstown, NJ 07840.

I knew Jeff since 3rd grade. He was one of the most cheerful persons I ever met. He loved his role as ‘class clown’ for many years, but, truly, it was simply his expressive optimistic personality that could always find the funny item or bright spot in every situation. He was instrumental in creating our reunions, keeping his huge school spirit alive for all of us. I am so sad he wasn’t able to share his bio or another reunion with us. Life just isn’t fair. I will miss you Jeff. We all will.

I am so sorry to hear this news…and I’m terribly upset to hear about it after the services. My heartfelt sympathies to the entire family. I enjoyed every minute I ever got to spend with Mr. Rattner…especially those that included Jack VanAntwerp. The hardest I have ever laughed in my life was with the two of them during our time in the High Point Harmonizers.
