Reeves, Margaret A. September 9, 1933 - January 10, 2025

Margaret Ann Reeves, age 91, of Belvidere, NJ died Friday, January 10, 2025 at Mira Vie at Brookfield, Belvidere, NJ.  Ann, as she was most commonly known, was born September 9, 1933 in Newark, NJ to the late Francis and Margaret (Chapin) Apgar. In addition to her parents, Margaret is predeceased in death by her beloved husband, Harold, her daughter, Jessica Wasilewski and her brother Frank Apgar.

Ann began illustrating her own stories at the age of four. Ann met her husband, Harold (Harry) in their senior year at Boonton High School. Upon graduating from High School, she went to McDowell School of Fashion and Design in Manhattan. Ann and Harry were married in 1953 and went on to have four daughters. She spent the next 30 years being a homemaker and raising her family.

After a move to Hackettstown in the early 1970’s the small-town charm inspired her to combine primitive and folk-art styles as she began painting local scenes in and around Hackettstown. Ann’s scenic paintings expanded beyond local Hackettstown and she soon became a renowned artist throughout New Jersey. She enjoyed quilting and sewing as well. Ann was very proud of her growing family and enjoyed hosting gatherings at her home. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren; many times, including them in her research efforts of local towns as she planned her next painting. Ann continued to plan and work on art projects up until just a few weeks ago. Ann always saw the best in anyone she met and would happily share her love and vision of art. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by three daughters, Katherine Dahms, Patricia Buttner-Todd and husband Mark, and Cynthia Reeves and husband Stefano Tomeo, ten grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, a niece and two nephews, and her sister-in-law.

The memorial visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Friday January 24, 2025 at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ with services beginning at 7:30 pm.

My deepest condolences to her family for their loss. I am so smitten with her art work that I have all the prints pertaining to Hackettstown. I met her so many times when she was selling her art prints & I was able to get her painting of the 1st attempt at folk art for her. I called her & told her I this painting & she invited me to come to her house to see it. She wrote on the back that this was her 1st attempt of folk art & is proudly displayed in my office.

I met your Ann many years ago. I saw her at the Senior Living Facility about a year ago and we talked a very long time about her paintings and many other things. Her wheelchair was very colorful due to all the paint on it! She was a very unique woman. I was sorry to read of her passing.
