Barbara Alice Rolph (née Makin)
January 5, 1938 – January 9, 2026
Barbara Alice Rolph, née Makin, passed away peacefully at her home in Byram Township on January 9, 2026, at the age of 88.
Born on January 5, 1938, Barbara was a woman of creativity, compassion, and strength. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alfred “Alf” Rolph, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and countless home renovation projects. It was not uncommon to see Barbara in her well-worn denim shirt, hammer in hand, turning a house into a home alongside Alf.
Barbara’s kind heart and generous spirit extended far beyond her own home. A lifelong animal lover, she dedicated much of her time and energy to supporting local rescues, including the Byram Animal Rescue Squad (BARKS). Over the years, she opened her heart and home to numerous animals, each one cherished as family.
A self-taught artist, Barbara expressed her creativity through her beautiful artwork, many of which now grace the walls of her family members’ homes—a lasting testament to her talent and love.
Barbara is survived by her sister, Edna Gardner, as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends who will deeply miss her warmth, humor, and generous spirit. She was preceded in death by her husband Alf- her brothers Walter, Albert and Arthur, her other sisters Gloria, Grace, and Emma, and her parents Robert and Alice.
While Barbara will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her, those left behind take comfort in imagining her joyful reunion with Alf, her family, and her many beloved pets at the rainbow bridge—no doubt serving as the “greeter extraordinaire.”
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to the pet rescue of the donor’s choosing.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840. For those wishing to leave online condolences for the family, please visit, www.cochranfuneral.com

January 16, 2026 at 10:30 pmSincere condolences to the family and friends. Barbara liked country music and I was flattered that she really enjoyed a grouping of my favorite songs that I professionally recorded some time ago. She was very sweet and very generous with her response to the cd that I sent to her and her sisters.
May she rest in peace. Bud (class of 55) and Fran Traynor, Calhoun, Ga.

January 17, 2026 at 2:57 pmBarbara will be missed by so many. Especially the volunteers of BARKS and the adopters of our animals. Barbara hand made the most beautiful blankets for us to give out at a cat or kitten adoption. the people receiving them loved them, we at BARKS were proud to say Barbara was the creator. She was a strong supporter of BARKS for many years and always a part of our family. Her memory will remain with us. She was a spunky, thoughtful and a caring person. She will be missed by all. Sincerest condolences to her family.
