Sheryl Lee Chammings was born May 20th, 1961 in Florida, to Lawrence and Marjorie Chammings. Sheryl died July 14th, 2026 at Morristown Medical Center in New Jersey at the age of 65. After a courageous fight with cancer for 5 years, Sheryl passed away peacefully with family at her side. She spent her final days laughing, praying and sharing memories with her family.
Sheryl grew up in Budd Lake, New Jersey. She was the first graduating class to spend all 4 years through the then newly built Mount Olive High School. She went on to the County College of Morris and then Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Upon graduating, she lived in Manhattan and gained an additional degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology. She shared memories of her time there often, especially those she made with her roommates and her adored Uncle Billy (William) Chammings and Grandmother, Helen Metz.
She married Christopher Williams in 1987 and moved to New Jersey, working with Nokia Bell Labs.
A few years after she married, Sheryl started her favorite chapter of life, motherhood. It was her greatest joy in life to raise her four beautiful children in Long Valley and Great Meadows, NJ. Once her children were all of school age, she began a career at Celebrate the Children, a school for children with autism. Her job there was difficult yet fufilling. She then worked at Macy’s in Rockaway. After Macy’s, she spent some years helping raise her grandchildren before her diagnosis of primary peritoneal carcinoma. In the most recent years, Sheryl found a great community of friends with her neighbors at the Alexandria Apartments in Hackettstown. They spent their afternoons gardening and chatting about their families. It was a comfort for her to have such kind neighbors. She was a regular attendee for Sunday morning mass at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Long Valley, NJ, often accompanied by her grandsons, Finley and Callaghan. She most recently worked at Great Meadows Middle School as a paraprofessional. She enjoyed becoming friends with the faculty and staff who showed immense care and generosity towards her. She found great purpose in working with the students every day, especially telling jokes and helping them laugh when they were down. She left a positive impact on all who she served and worked with throughout her life.
Throughout her 5 year fight, she was always encouraged by the guidance and positivity of her physicians, nurses, and care team; we are forever grateful for them as her family.
Sheryl will be remembered as someone who was exceedingly kind, selflessly cared for others, always sweet, and unconditionally devoted to her family.
She is survived by Christopher Williams, their children: Aubree Hall and her husband Scott, Eric Williams and his wife Theresa, Ben Williams and Olivia Williams; her beloved grandchildren: Finley Hall, Callaghan Hall, Wesley Williams and Teddy Williams; her mother, Marjorie Chammings, and sisters: Kathleen and her husband Brian and Jennifer and her husband Chris, and her 3 nieces and nephew.
She is predeceased by her father Lawrence Chammings, uncle Billy Chammings, brother Darrell Chammings and granddaughter Graycen Hall.
The family will hold a funeral mass at St Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, 4 Church St, Netcong, NJ on Friday, July 24th at 10 AM. There will be a repast following the service. All are welcome to join the family for a meal and to share memories of Sheryl at The Coach Room by Mama‘s Cafe Baci, 144 Mountain Ave, Hackettstown NJ from 12-3 PM.
