Siersma, Susan Jane May 11, 1951 - February 6, 2021

Susan Jane Siersma, 69, of Mansfield Township, Warren County, NJ entered Heaven’s gates on February 6, 2021. She was born to the late Regina and Howard Noll on May 11, 1951. Susan grew up in Wayne, NJ and attended the Immaculate Heart of Mary and Wayne Valley High School.

Susan married her high school sweetheart, Rodger in 1972 and together they raised their family. Susan was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother first and foremost. She treasured her grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. She had a vivacious personality and made friends everywhere she went. Through her children and grandchildren’s friends she became known as a neighborhood mom and “Grandma Sue.” She was a selfless and humble person. She checked in on her neighbors and cared for anyone who needed it.

Susan spent many years working in the Hackettstown School district. She was a dedicated volunteer to many programs including the Hackettstown High School teen nights, Warren County ARC, the Sussex County Master Gardeners, the Tri-County Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, the Food Shed Alliance local share and many others. She was a member of the Warren County Singers and the Stone Soup Symphony.

Many of her days were spent with her beloved dog, Jack, visiting nursing homes and the New Jersey Firemen’s home. She loved all creatures great and small and enjoyed raising beautiful butterflies from egg to butterfly. During the summer months Susan could always be found with her hands in the dirt, cultivating her organic garden and tending to her beautiful flowers. Susan always had a gift of writing. She followed that passion and had many stories published in the popular Chicken Soup and Cup of Comfort books and many other publications.

Susan is survived by her loving husband Rodger, her daughter Laura and her husband Thomas, her son Michael and his wife Lacey, and her daughter Corrin; grandchildren Jacob, Alyssa, Eric, Grace and Patrick; her brother Howard and his wife Susan, her sister Jean, her sister Katherine and her husband Beaufort, sister-in-law Dawn and her husband Clay and numerous nieces and nephews.  She is predeceased by her mother and father, Regina and Howard Noll, and brother, Joseph Noll.

A memorial visitation will be held Monday, February 15th at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street Hackettstown, NJ from 4:00-8:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider  a memorial donation in memory of Susan to the ARC of Warren County https://www.arcwarren.org/arc-foundation/support-the-arc/ or  NORWESCAP https://norwescap.org/get-involved/.

Sue was a great friend to the Stone Soup Symphony. She played with us for many years and made sure any new players were welcomed. Dear Rodger, Laura, Michael, Corrin & Entire Family,

Growing up across the street from Sue was a blessing. She was a second mother to me and always made me feel, welcomed, included, special, loved, and important. Sue and her family made everything fun, easy going, and joyful. Sue had a heart of gold and was always there to lend you a hand, offer you a cup of tea, and deliver fresh veggies to your door.

I am so sorry to hear of Sue’s passing. I have so many fond memories of Corrin and Becky growing up together spending time at each other’s homes. Sue was always smiling and happy whenever I would see her at school or other events involving the kids. She will be missed, but not forgotten by many. I am so sad to hear of Sue’s passing. We were chorus buddies, and shared rides to rehearsals and performances. She was a talented musician, both vocally and on violin and a gifted gardener. We are still growing plants the way she taught us. She was a rare combination of equal measures of intellect and heart, with a smile, kind word and support for everyone. I learned a great deal from her example and kindness. I am sure she accomplished everything she came to the planet to do, and has been joyously welcomed home.

Aunt Sue is what we called you, but a mother to us is what you were. No matter what, from lunch, dinner, sleep overs, the pool, barn, the chickens is what I enjoyed the most. Going out to the coop to get the eggs. That was our childhood with you. You took care of us, you loved it, we loved it. If any of us needed something we could come to you and Uncle Roger. In the winter we would hang out in the house and wait for the bus, because you didn’t want us in the cold. I am heartbroken to hear about your passing. The great ones are taken way before they should. Your caring and loving will always be with us, and those who crossed your path. The memories will be forever. Uncle Roger, Laura, Mike, Corrin, my prayers are with you in this time of grieving.

    Dear Rodger and Family,
My sincere sympathy on your tragic loss. Cousin Susan was my constant childhood companion growing up in Wayne. We gathered wildflowers, weeded her mother’s astounding garden, sang in the church choir, and built tree forts. She was a devoted, gentle, patient playmate to my handicapped sister too. We adored her!
Clearly she became the adult that fulfilled all the promise that she demonstrated as a young girl. She was a very special person.

    My deepest condolences,
    Mary (Holland) Meslar
