Sissick, John Edward September 6, 1936 - February 25, 2025

John Edward Sissick, age 88, of Weatherly, PA died Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at St. Luke Pavilion,f Hazleton, PA.  John was born September 6, 1936 in McAdoo, PA. He is the son of the late John and Nellie (Lizbinski) Sissick.   He was predeceased by his wife, Judith Sissick on 11/08/2023.

John received his B.A. degree from Saint Mary’s College, Orchard Lake, Michigan and an M.S. degree in administration and supervision from the University of Scranton, Scranton, PA.

He did extended graduate work at Seton Hall University and Fairleigh Dickinson University.

John spent his career as an educator, he taught English and Latin in the Netcong Public Schools 1961 – 1968, English in the Roxbury Schools 1968-1969 then 1969 – 1995, he was the English Department Chairman and the District Supervisor of Curriculum in the Hopatcong Borough Schools, 1969 – 1995. After retiring from Hopatcong John became an Adjunct Professor of Humanities at Sussex County College.

John was a world traveler, he chaperoned high school students on trips to France and Switzerland. He participated in the “Hands Across the Water” program visiting Russia and hosting Russian students here.

He was an avid reader always keeping up with world events, he was an accomplished musician playing the accordion and keyboards. John was the editor of the Panther Magazine at Panther Valley for 22 years. John was also a Friend of Rutherford Hall and a Docent there, he often sat at the piano before events softly playing nostalgic tunes.

John is survived by nieces and nephews and many friends.

A memorial visitation will take place on Saturday March 8, 2025 from 10 am until 12 noon at which time the memorial service will begin with Chaplain Mario Spadaro officiating at the Cochran Funeral Home 905 High Street Hackettstown, NJ

In lieu of flowers donations in his name to The Seeing Eye, 1 Seeing Eye Way Morristown, NJ 07960 would be greatly appreciated in memory of John.
