Thorp, Suzanne Ruth Kane October 22, 1931 - October 26, 2025

Suzanne Ruth Kane Thorp died on October 26, 2025 at Medford Leas, a continuing care Quaker Community in Medford, New Jersey, just outside Philadelphia.  She had just turned 94.

Sue loved life and was a deeply caring and compassionate person.  Her love and empathy extended not only to her family and friends, but to her community. This sensibility was evident through her commitment to the social justice causes she was passionate about throughout her life.

Born on October 22, 1931, in Saginaw, Michigan, Suzanne was the daughter of Harold Kane and Eva Caster Kane.  She and her brother, Gerald Arden Kane, grew up during the Depression.  Both of her parents worked (Eva in retail and Harold as a plumber) to keep the family afloat during those years.  Church was an integral part of  the  family’s  life and their  faith had deep connections to the  Washington Avenue Presbyterian Church in Saginaw.

The first girl in her family to attend college, Sue was a Speech major at the College of Wooster (class of ‘53) joining her brother, Gerry (‘51). There she also met the love of her life, Albert Thorp (‘52).  They married on November 21, 1952. In subsequent years, College of Wooster would become the alma mater to other family members, including her son Tom (‘81) and his wife Ginny (‘82), her son Andrew (‘86), and her granddaughter Taylor Thorp Kish (‘15) and her husband Ryan Kish (‘15) .

    Dear Thorp Family
My Wife Robin and I were very saddened to hear of Mrs. Thorp’s passing, and just so grateful she was able to attend the Street Corner Dedication to Mr. Thorp & our good friend Tom.
We know in Christ we will gather again, yet the sting of this temporary separation is still real.
We pray our FATHER in Heaven will comfort you all, as only HE can.
    In Christ alone
