David Lyman Tynan Sr., age 70 of Hackettstown died Wednesday, November 26, at Hackettstown Hospital. David was born May 30th 1955 in Newton NJ to the late Clarence Tynan and Elizabeth (Luteran) Tynan.
David is predeceased by his father Clarence Tynan, and brother, Alan Tynan.
He is survived by his beloved mother Elizabeth (Luteran) Tynan, sons David Jr (Terri, Grandsons Tristan, and Zachary) of Newark, DE, and Brian (Michelle, Predeceased by step-grandson Andy, Grandchildren Katrina, Ashely, Tyler, Olivia, and Great Grandchildren Andrew, and Theodore) of Carlisle, PA, his brother Michael (Kay) of Hackettstown, Jeffery of Spring Hill FL, Peter (Debbie, and God Daughter Kaeleigh) of Hackettstown. Also, many nieces and nephews of Hackettstown.
After graduating Hackettstown High School in June of 1973, He joined the Cataract Hose Company #1 of the Hackettstown Fire Department becoming an Active Honorary member in January of 1974, and an active member in April of 1976 until present. He started his career as an auto mechanic at the local Arco, driver for Hoskin’s Livery, Candy Maker at M & M Mars until his retirement in 2010.
During his time in the Cataract Hose Company #1 David held many positions within the department. He served as a Foreman, Asst Chief and was Department Chief in 1997. He also served as a Hose Company Desk officer for many years as Treasurer. Along with serving the department he also held various positions in the NJ State Exempt Association as Company Secretary, and the NJ State Fireman’s Relief Association as Company Treasurer. David was also known as the Float Crew Chief at the Annual American Legion Memorial Day Ceremony as he led the float down the river and maintained the float for over 25 years.
David will always be remembered as a devoted father, brother, grandfather, dog lover, son, nephew, and fire service brother. He was always willing to help anyone out no matter the circumstance and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Friday, December 5th from 4-7pm at Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ.
