Laura Ann Uhl, age 55, of Hackettstown NJ, died peacefully Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Overlook Medical Center, Summit, NJ surrounded by her loved ones. She battled Stage 4 lung cancer for 18 months.

She worked at the Hackettstown Free Public Library in Hackettstown, NJ as a Supervisory Library and Financial Assistant for 18 years. Laura was a beloved single mother to her two children who she loved more than anything. She was a warm selfless loving person who put everyone before herself. She was a loving daughter who took care of her parents. She was a loving partner for her long-time fiancé. She was and continues to be the heart of her family. Laura also loved animals – from birds to chipmunks to dogs and cats – especially the many cats she rescued in her life and gladly became a self-proclaimed “Crazy Cat Lady”. She loved to garden and plant flowers all year long. She had an eye for interior and exterior decorating giving her home a welcoming and warm feel. She also enjoyed sitting down and relaxing with family watching movies like Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones, and Harry Potter, and in her spare time enjoyed crosswords, word searches, and reading.

November 22, 2024 at 8:55 pmIt was heartbreaking to open up Cochran Funeral Home and see Laura’s obituary. I admired her a great deal for the grace, dignity, and knowledge that she unwittingly displayed at the library — it just came naturally. I remember when she practically carried, on her own two shoulders, the multiple functions of the library when we were between Directors, about 4 or 5 years ago. What would we have done without her; she was a tower of strength. I’ll always miss her. Much sympathy to her family.
